Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – McMurry University Women's Soccer scored the game-tying goal in the final seconds to force a 1-1 draw at Huston Tillotson University Friday night in its season opener.
On McMurry's fourth and final corner kick of the game, junior defender Emily Fisher delivered a corner that would be headed in by senior defender Karleigh Alsip. The teams did not play overtime, resulting in the tie.
The War Hawks had just five shots, with the tying header being recorded as the only shot on goal. HTU had 17 shots, with nine on goal.
In goal, junior Cindy Villasana got the start and notched three saves in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Jordan Gregory grabbed six saves in second half action.
The Rams had taken the lead minutes before Alsip's goal, going ahead in the 87th minute.
McMurry played the final 40 minutes down a player after a red card early in the second half.
The War Hawks will be in action Sunday at Wilford Moore Stadium as they play host to Hendrix College with a noon kickoff.
