ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Tennis saw its season come to a close Tuesday afternoon, as the War Hawks fell to rival Hardin-Simmons, 8-1. McMurry would have clinched a berth in the American Southwest Conference Championship with a win.
Trey Fambrough and Zach Miller had the closest doubles match, as they fell 8-6 at number three as the Cowboys (7-8, 4-2 ASC) swept all three matches.
Miller claimed the only point of the afternoon for the War Hawks (5-12, 2-4 ASC) at number six singles. After winning set one, 6-4, Miller cruised to a 6-1 set two win.
Two matches went all three sets, with Joseph Diaz at number five and Stone Coston at number four. Diaz split his first two sets with scores of 6-7 and 7-6 before falling in the tiebreaker, 10-7. Coston was defeated 6-1 in set one before bouncing back for a 6-4 set two win. He lost the third set, 7-5.
