ABILENE, Texas – Junior shortstop Mikayla Krause hit walk-off grand slam as McMurry University Softball scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Louisiana College Sunday afternoon. The game was moved from Red Bud Park to Ellis Field on the campus of Hardin-Simmons.
Trailing 5-4 entering the bottom of the seventh, first baseman Rachel Ripley tied the game with a one out solo home run to left center. The next batter, designated player Kasey Woolard, doubled to right to put the tying run on base.
Left fielder Kollin Morris singled next, followed by a bunt single by centerfielder Ashley McClellan to load the bases.
Krause then sent the fans home happy with a blast to left, giving McMurry its second walk off win of the season and first series win since taking two out of three from Hardin-Simmons in late February.
The teams traded runs in the first inning, as Woolard answered the Wildcats' (19-12, 10-11 ASC) run with an RBI single of her own. Right fielder Summer Quiroga then gave the War Hawks (12-20, 7-14 ASC) the lead in the bottom of the second with an RBI groundout.
Louisiana College then scored four runs over the next three innings to take a 5-2 advantage into the bottom of the fifth.
McMurry got two runs in the fifth on RBIs by Morris and pinch hitter Maisa Reyerson to pull within 5-4 and set up the dramatic final inning.
Emily Levario picked up the win in relief, tossing the final three innings allowing just one run on two hits with three strikeouts. Starter Hope Schoeneman pitched four innings, striking out one while allowing four runs on eight hits.
McMurry pounded out 14 hits on the afternoon, led by Woolard's three. Ripley and Morris each had two hits apiece. Krause led the War Hawks with four RBIs, and scored twice. Catcher Nina Hernandez scored two runs, as well.
