Schoeneman shuts out Tornados in series finale

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Softball snapped its five-game losing streak Saturday afternoon, topping Concordia Texas 3-0 at Red Bud Park in American Southwest Conference action.

Right-hander Hope Schoeneman tossed her second complete game shutout of the season, allowing just three hits while striking out eight. Schoeneman improved to 6-5 on the year, and the eight strikeouts ties her season high.

The War Hawks (8-12, 3-6 ASC) gave Schoeneman all the offense she needed in the third, as designated player Kasey Woolard drove in left fielder Kollin Morris, who had reached on a two-out error.

McMurry tacked on two insurance runs in the fourth, with the rally once again coming with two outs. After a pair of walks, pinch hitter Eva Pourcio hit an RBI single to right, with the second run scoring on a Concordia error.

The Tornados (10-10, 5-7 ASC) had a rally in the top of the fourth as they placed runners on second and third, but Schoeneman struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

McMurry had six hits on the afternoon, all singles.

The War Hawks will hit the road again next weekend when they visit Mary Hardin-Baylor for a three-game series.
