RICHARDSON, Texas – McMurry University Men's Basketball had an eight-point lead at the half, but host UT Dallas rallied in the second half for a 93-66 win in the quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Tournament Thursday evening.
The War Hawks (10-16) took a 39-31 lead into the break, as they shot 54.2 percent from the floor, including 70.0 percent from beyond the arc. Defensively, they held the Comets (22-4) to 45.5 percent and without a three pointer.
But the Comets stormed out of the locker room, taking the lead back four minutes into the second half and never looked back. UTD shot 58.1 percent from the field with eight threes in the half while holding the War Hawks to just 22.9 percent.
McMurry took their first lead of the game at 10-9 in the first half, and held that lead for the remainder of the half. Their largest lead was that of eight at the break. Though the Comets tied it multiple times, McMurry would answer with a three.
The War Hawks hit five of their first seven threes, and were 7-of-10 from beyond the arc in the first half. Both Khalil Butler and Shakur Smith knocked down two threes in the half.
Junior guard Zacc Carter led three War Hawks in double figures with 11 points, with Dedrick Berry Jr. and Jordan Jackson each adding 10 points. Butler recorded nine points, all via the three pointer. Jackson grabbed a team high six rebounds.
