War Hawks to host LeTourneau in ASC Quarterfinal

ABILENE, Texas – History will be made Tuesday night, as McMurry University Women's Soccer will host a quarterfinal match of the American Southwest Conference Tournament for the first time at 7 p.m. against LeTourneau University.

Admission is $5 for adults, while children 12 & under and students with a valid ID are free. The first 60 students with their valid ID will receive a free t-shirt. Live stats and video will also be available at mcmurrysports.com.

The War Hawks claimed the No. 4 seed in the ASC, finishing with a 6-3-2 conference record and earning 20 points. LeTourneau earned the No. 5 seed with a 5-5-1 ASC mark and 16 points. Overall, McMurry went 11-3-6 and the YellowJackets 9-7-1.

McMurry had a record breaking season, setting new program records for wins (11), goals (44), assists (30), points (114), shutouts (9), fewest goals allowed (14) and consecutive wins (5). Additionally, the War Hawks started the year with a 13-game unbeaten streak, going 9-0-4.

Individually, freshman forward Alyssa Daily set a new record with 11 goals, second most in the ASC. She finished seventh in points (23) and led the conference with 77 shots. In net, both Jordan Gregory and Cindy Villasana recorded 31 saves and bested the old save percentage record of .765.

In the first meeting this season between the War Hawks and YellowJackets October 3, McM came away with the 1-0 road victory after junior midfielder Sky Reynolds headed the ball to Daily for the lone goal. Much of the second half was played in the rain.

Sophomore forward Reagan Sandford leads the YellowJackets, having scored 10 goals to go with five assists.

McMurry is making just its second appearance in the ASC Tournament, having qualified for the first time in 2018.

Hardin-Simmons University won the regular season title and is the top seed, and will host No. 8 Concordia Texas, as well as the semifinals and championship match. On the other half of the bracket, No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor hosts No. 7 Howard Payne and No. 3 UT Dallas hosts No. 6 Belhaven.

The winners of Tuesday's quarterfinal matches will meet in the semifinals Friday, with the championship game Sunday at 1 p.m., where an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament will be on the line.
