ABILENE, Texas – Arguably the toughest game to date for McMurry University Women's Soccer, the War Hawks will host fellow unbeaten University of Texas at Dallas Thursday evening in an American Southwest Conference showdown.
The game against the Comets kicks off at 5 p.m. Additionally, the War Hawks host the University of the Ozarks Saturday at 1 p.m. at Wilford Moore Stadium. Live stats and video links for both games can be found at mcmurrysports.com. Play-by-play coverage will also be available on the streams.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: McMurry went on the road and stayed perfect in conference play, moving to 4-0 with a 1-0 win at LeTourneau University and a 3-0 win at East Texas Baptist University.
SIKORA HONORED: Sophomore midfielder Meriah Sikora was honored as the ASC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after leading the McMurry defense to two shutouts. She also scored the game-winning goal against East Texas Baptist, which was her first career goal.
9: After defeating East Texas Baptist Saturday, the War Hawks recorded their ninth win of the season, a new program record.
7: With two shutouts last week, the War Hawks defense has now posted seven shutouts on the season, flying past the old record of four.
UNBEATENS: Thursday's matchup with the Comets is a battle of unbeaten teams. The Comets are 10-0-1, 3-0-1 ASC, while the War Hawks will enter the game 9-0-4, 4-0-0 ASC. UTD is also receiving votes in this week's polls.
ASC LEADERS: As a team, McM continues to lead the ASC in shots with 241 and is tied with Hardin-Simmons with 39 goals. It is a three-way tie at the top between McM, HSU and UTD with seven shutouts apiece. The War Hawks rank in the top three in numerous other categories, as well. Freshman forward Alyssa Daily leads the league in shots (55), points (22) and goals (11). Junior forward Sky Reynolds is tied for sixth in goals (6), tied for fifth in points (17) and second in assists (5).
SCOUTING UTD: The Comets started the year 8-0 before tying at Sul Ross State. They have bounced back and won both games at home last weekend before heading to Abilene. UTD has allowed just six goals all season behind the goalkeeping of Morgan Sherman, who has a goals allowed average of 0.56. Offensively, they have four players with 14 or more points, and nobody else with more than three. Forward Rana Hussein paces the offense with seven goals and three assists.
SCOUTING OZARKS: Ozarks enters the weekend 5-3-3, 2-2 ASC after a pair of losses last weekend. The Eagles had gone 5-0-2 in their previous seven games. Gisselle Estrada leads the Eagles in goals (7), assists (4) and points (18).
