Women's Hoops Win Streak Snapped in Finale

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University women's basketball had its three-game win streak snapped, losing the 2016-17 finale to Concordia University-Texas, 65-49, at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks finished their season at 9-15 and 5-11 in the ASC, while the Tornados improved to 16-9 and 9-7 in the ASC.

McM hung close to CUTX after one quarter, trailing by just a single point, 12-11. However, the War Hawks were unable to keep up with the Tornados in the middle two quarters.  In the second half, Concordia extended its lead to 35-22 heading into the halftime locker room.  In the third stanza, the Tornados out-scored McMurry, 17-9, and extended the margin to 21 points (52-31).

McM was able to chip away a little of the CUTX cushion, but the mountain was too much to overcome. The War Hawks held an 18-13 fourth quarter total over the Tornados.

The McM scoring was led by Amye Templeton's 11 points off the bench. Templeton's totals included three treys and an overall 4-of-12 shooting day.

Kaymee Howell matched Templeton with a trio of baskets from beyond the arc, finishing with nine points. Like Templeton, Howell also came off of the War Hawks' bench.

Sham Hunter and London Weilert each chipped in seven points. Hunter led all players with 13 rebounds and Weilert grabbed seven caroms, as well.

Rhianna Jones booked six points. Jones hit 3-of-6 from the floor and also hauled in three rebounds.
