McM Can't Weather Tornados' Second Half, 101-89

AUSTIN, Texas – McMurry University's men's basketball team played Concordia University-Texas - the third place team in the American Southwest Conference West Division – strong early on, before eventually coming out on the short end of a 101-89 final score at the Concordia Fieldhouse.  The War Hawks fell to 8-10 (4-6 ASC) and the Tornados upped their record to 13-6 (7-3 ASC).

McM had a strong first half, shooting 42 percent (17-41) on its way to a 46-44 advantage at the intermission. The largest lead of the opening salvo was five points and the teams were tied seven times in the stanza.

In the second half, the contest was still a tight game, with the War Hawks down by a single point (58-57) with 14:20 left in the game.  But from the point, the Tornados whirled out on a 16-7 run over the next five minutes to lead, 74-64. CUTX held a double-figure cushion the balance of the game to hand McM its third-straight ASC loss.

Senior Nate Estrada topped McM with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Estrada made good on 5-of-17 from the field – including a pair of treys – and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Junior forward LaRandall Scroggins and freshman guard Darius Watts each added 15 points. Scroggins also registered nine rebounds and a blocked shot.

Freshman forward Mike Williams Jr. was his teams' fourth double-digit scorer, with 14 points off the War Hawks' bench. Williams connected on 5-of-8 from the floor. He also pulled down six rebounds and had a game-leading four blocked shots, along with a pair of steals.

Junior Aaron Gettys booked nine points, with Kaan Yilmaz and Calvin McGee tallying eight and seven points, respectively. McGee had five rebounds and three assists, while Yilmaz and Gettys each grabbed three caroms. Krishawn Terry also pulled down six rebounds in the loss.
