HOUSTON, Texas – The McMurry University women's soccer team had a rough go of things in its season-opening match, falling at the University of St. Thomas, 10-0, at the Houston Sports Park.
McM trailed at the half, 3-0, after enduring a weather delay. UST posted seven second-half goals.
The Celts (1-1), a member of the NAIA, dominated the War Hawks (0-1). UST's lone loss was it's opened versus NCAA Division I Texas Southern by a 1-0 score.
Freshman goalkeeper Jordyn Gregory – a former Cooper High School Cougar – had 11 saves in the contest, as the Celts launched a total of 38 shots (21 of which were on-goal). Gregory was charged with all 10 goals against the War Hawks.
Meanwhile, the UST defense suffocated the McM offensive attack. McMurry did not manage a single shot attempt.
The War Hawks will try to right the ship on Monday (Sept. 5) when they travel to the University of Dallas for a 5 p.m. match.
