SEGUIN, Texas –
LaRandall Scroggins scored a career-high 29 points to lead all scorers, but it was not enough as the McMurry University men's basketball team lost an 85-79 non-conference decision to Texas Lutheran University at Memorial Gymnasium. With the loss, the War Hawks (5-6) lost the season series to the Bulldogs (6-3).

At the 17:31 mark of the opening period, McM had what would be its largest lead of the game – five points - on a Scroggins three-point basket. Scroggins only trey of the day made it 12-7. But by the 3:54 mark, TLU had gone on a 32-16 run and taken an 11-point lead over the visitors, 39-28.
McMurry would trail going into the halftime locker room by eight points, 42-38.
But the War Hawks were not done yet. In the second half, McMurry whittled away at the Bulldogs' advantage.
Darius Watts' made good on a pair of free throws to knot the score at 59-59 with 9:39 left to play. Then with 7:56 remaining, Scroggins hit a short jumper to give the War Hawks their first lead of the second segment, 64-63.

Nate Estrada jumper from three-point range put McM ahead 67-65. The balance of the contest had six ties, but the War Hawks would not see the lead again in the waning minutes.
Scroggins was 11-of-19 from the field and 6-of-9 from the free throw line. He also had a team-leading eight rebounds in 34 minutes of work.
Estrada was the only other double-figure scorer with 15. Estrada was 6-of-10 from the floor, including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. He also had three assists.

Kaan Yilmaz added nine points, four rebounds and two assists for McM. Watts had eight points off the McM bench.
Luke Stephenson, also coming off the bench, added six points.
