TYLER, Texas – McMurry University men's basketball found itself down by double-digits midway through the first half and was never able to make up any ground in an 82-56 loss at the Herrington Patriot Center. The loss left the War Hawks with a 4-4 overall record and 2-2 in the American Southwest Conference, while the Patriots improved to 6-3, 3-1 in the ASC.
For all intents and purposes, UTT had the game in the proverbial refrigerator by the first half with a 48-14 lead at the break. The Patriots shot a blistering 58 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, while the War Hawks were mired in a 5-26 shooting slump (19 percent).
For the game, McM shot 27 percent (18-68) from the field. UTT hit 48 percent overall (27-56) from the floor, while also converting 22-of-27 free throws.
The War Hawks were out-rebounded by a 43-36 margin.
Darius Watts was McM's only player to reach double-figure scoring with 10 points. Watts did not reach double figures until 7:43 left in the game when he canned a trey to make it 79-45. Among is totals were a pair of three-point baskets.
Mike Williams Jr. came off of the McMurry bench to finish the game with a game-leading 10 rebounds, along with his six points.
Kaan Yilmaz and
Luke Stephenson each booked seven points.
Aaron Gettys and
Zacc Carter had five points each.
Calvin McGee gave off three assists. McGee,
Nate Estrada and Yilmaz each corralled four boards.
