ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University women's basketball team could not hold off a second-half surge by Concordia University-Texas, losing by a 67-47 score at Kimbrell Arena.

The War Hawks (4-14) led at the half by a 30-29 margin. However, the Tornados (9-9) blew by McM in the second half by out-scoring the hosts, 38-17.   McMurry was victimized by hitting just 17 percent (4-23) from the field in the final two quarters, while CUTX converted nearly 47 percent (15-32) from the floor during the same time.

McM led by as many as seven points – 30-23 – with 1:38 left until the halftime break. The Tornados were able to take the upper hand for good with 7:31 remaining in the third quarter (36-35), going on a 13-3 run after that point to close the period.

Senior Sierra Maykus had arguably what was her best shooting game of the season. Maykus finished the night with 15 points, hitting 5-of-9 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. She was also 2-for-2 from the free throw line

Maykus was McM's lone scorer to reach double-digit scoring.

Taylor Russell was held to just seven points, well below her season average of nearly 17 points per game. Russell hit just 2-of-15 from the field against a tough CUTX defense. She did grab 11 rebounds and pass off for three assists.

Sophomore Sham Hunter led all players with 18 rebounds (11 on the defensive end). Hunter also scored six points and passed off for a team-best four assists for McMurry.

Also booking six points for then War Hawks were Haley Welch, Chelsie Lail and Amye Templeton.  Kessha Bracy had one point to round out McM's scoring.

Welch and Lail each pulled down six boards, as well. Lail added a pair of steals to her night.
