Box Score ABILENE, Texas – It was another record-setting evening for McMurry women's soccer, tying the school standards for most goals in a match and largest differential, thanks to its 8-0 drubbing of Jarvis Christian College at Wilford Moore Stadium.
The win helped the War Hawks improve to 4-2 overall on the year. Jarvis fell to 0-6. McMurry won the first meeting between the teams in Hawkins, 4-1, on September 5.
The McMurry defense – led by
Addison Tate,
Chelsey Coffey and
Hailey Presley – was dominating on Monday night. The Bulldogs could not even register a shot attempt, leaving McM goaltender
Ashley Hemphill with plenty of spare time during the match.
Meanwhile, the War Hawks attack produced a season high 40 shot attempts, 22 of which were on goal. That resulted in the offensive outburst that netted four goals in each half.
McM notched all of its first half tallies in a six minute span that started with
Holiday Williams' taking a
Kristen Grant pass and going to the opposite corner in the 17th minute, 1-0.
Aleria Luna then netted the first of her eventual three goals on the night, also assisted by Grant, at 18:02.
In the 22nd minute, Luna fed Williams to make it 3-0, and the rout was on. A little over a minute alter,
Paige Harwell got in on the action with a 25-yard blast on a ball from Luna, 4-0.
Luna's second goal of the night came in the 63rd minute with Williams assisting. Coffey perked up and got an unassisted goal that put McM ahead 6-0. The final two goals of the match came from Luna in the 78th minute to complete her "hat trick," and Harwell (on a pass from Grant).
The same two team tangle again on Tuesday (1 p.m.) at Wilford Moore Stadium.
