ABILENE, Texas – McMurry women's soccer suffered its first defeat of the 2014 season, dropping a 3-0 decision to Howard Payne University at Wilford Moore Stadium. The loss left the War Hawks with an overall record of 3-1, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 2-3.

HPU nearly tripled the McMurry shot attempts, out-gunning the War Hawks by a 30-to-11 margin. McM freshman goalkeeper Ashley Hemphill was kept busy, registering 13 saves (six in the first half and seven in the second).

HPU net-minder Kelsie Piland had four saves on the night.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Then in the 36th minute, Hemphill made a nice sliding save, only to have HPU come up with the rebound and net another goal, for a 2-0 halftime advantage.

An unassisted goal in the 74th minute made it the 3-0 final score.
