Box Score
ABILENE, Texas – A late flurry of runs by visiting Southeastern Oklahoma State University doomed McMurry University in the rubber game of the non-conference series between the teams, 10-2, at Walt Driggers Field.
The Savage Storm (14-14) scored nine runs in the final three innings versus the War Hawks (9-15), taking two of three games in Abilene.
McMurry starter
Lanny Zier went 5 2/3 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing one earned run, departing the game with a 2-1 lead. Zier struck out four and walked one, while also managing to work out of several jams.
Reliever
Trevor Ragsdale came on to get the final out of the sixth inning. However, the seventh proved to be another matter, as SOSU's first three men reached base on a single and two McMurry fielding errors to load the bases.
Eric Preuss came on for Ragsdale, but fared no better after allowing two runs on wild pitches – and another on a sacrifice fly – all three of which were charged to Ragsdale.
The Savage Storm added another run in the eighth, along with five in the top of the ninth that salted away the game for the visitors.
Shortstop
Kyle Sargent and rightfielder
Eric Moritz each went 2-for-4 in the game. Moritz had his team's lone extra-base hit – a double in the second inning – and also scored one run. It was the ninth multi-hit game for Sargent, to share the team lead in that statistic, and the seventh for Moritz.
Outfielder
Zack Hagan went 0-for-4 in the game to snap his hitting stream at 10 games.
Both of McMurry's runs off of SOSU starter Jaime Paxton were unearned. Paxton struck out six War Hawks without a walk in his six innings of work. Mason Crenshaw tossed the final three frames to pick up his sixth save of the year.
