Women's Soccer Can't Solve HPU, 3-0

BROWNWOOD, Texas – McMurry women's soccer fell to Howard Payne University for the second time this season, this time by a 3-0 count at Citizens National Bank Field.

The loss dropped the War Hawks to 5-3 on the season.  The Yellow Jackets improved to 5-4. Howard Payne defeated McMurry by an identical 3-0 score in Abilene back on September 16.

HPU scored in the 22nd minute, as the host team took a 1-0 lead into the halftime locker room.  The Yellow Jacket found the net for the second time in the 49th minute and once again in the 75th.

As a team, McM was out-shot by Howard Payne, 24-7 overall. The War Hawks did manage to take quality shots, however, as five were directly on goal (two by Kristen Grant and one each by Hailey Presley, Paige Harwell and Aleria Luna).

McMurry goalkeeper Ashley Hemphill was credited with 12 saves in the contest, playing all 90 minutes in the War Hawks' nets.

For HPU, Kelsie Piland had three saves and Shelby Spaulding one in goal.

McMurry will return to action on October 10 when it hosts University of the Ozarks at Wilford Moore Stadium at 2 p.m.
