WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The McMurry women's tennis team defeated UT-Tyler, 5-4, on Friday afternoon. The match was played at Midwestern State University.
The War Hawk women got off to a slow start, dropping two of the three doubles matches. McM's lone tandem win was at the No. 1 position, where
Lauren Renner and
Brandy Curry had a dominate 8-1 win over UTT's Jennifer Payne and Nicole Musingi.
Renner came through again for her team in singles play at the No. 1 slot. Renner won the first set over Payne, 6-3, and then battled to a 7-5 victory in a tight second set. McMurry would drop the Nos. 2 and 3 singles bouts, with
Sydney Gonzalez and
Salitza Abrantes taking the losses.
But the War Hawks would sweep the remaining singles matches to secure the win, and all in convincing fashion. At the No. 4 position, it was Curry winning by a 6-2, 6-4 count over Emily Evans.
Miranda Townsend defeated UTT's Katy Zagurski, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. At No. 6, it was McM's
Autumn Patterson scoring a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Candyce Henwood.
