HUNTSVILLE, Texas – McMurry University's women's tennis team dropped both of its weekend matches, falling to the University of the Incarnate Word, 9-0, on Saturday and losing to NCAA Division I Sam Houston State, 7-0, on Sunday.
The setbacks dropped the War Hawks' team mark to 3-6 overall. The team has dropped its last three matches, as well.
In Sunday's finale to the two-game swing, SHSU simply overpowered the young McMurry line-up. The Bearkats earned the team point for doubles, sweeping all three matches, and took all six singles matches in straight sets.
At No. 5 singles,
Salitza Abrantes lost 7-5, 6-2, to post the most games won by any of the McM players.
The previous day against Incarnate Word, it was much the same scenario for the War Hawks. UIW swept all six singles matches. The No. 5 position was again the most productive for McMurry as
Jessica Bentley lost her first set 6-2 and battled in the second, 7-5.
Lauren Renner and
Dana LeMieux dropped a hard-fought decision at No. 1 doubles, 8-6.
