BETHANY, Okla. – The McMurry women's soccer team made the most of the program's first-ever post season contest, when it defeated Central Baptist College, 2-1, on Thursday afternoon in the first round of the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region Tournament.
The War Hawks (5-12-1) got on the board first when the War Hawks capitalized on a corner kick that allowed
Lyndsie Jacobs to score from inside the box to make the score 1-0 in favor of McM. They would go into the half leading by the same score.
In the second half, Central Baptist's leading scorer, Brittany Kemper, took advantage of a free kick that beat keeper
Shelby Sova to tie the game at 1-1. 13 minutes later,
Kristen Grant untied the contest.
Grant took a great through-pass from
Jordain Longoria and headed the ball over the charging keeper to put McM up 2-1, at the 60th minute. It was a lead that McM would not relinquish.
The War Hawks, who tied the program's all-time record for wins in a season today, will be back in action on Friday, when they take on the region's No.1 seed, Oklahoma Wesleyan. The semi-final match is scheduled for a noon start.
