CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas – McMurry University won its first American Southwest Conference match Thursday afternoon 3-0 against the University of the Ozarks. McMurry goalie Makenzie Hargrove posted the first shutout since October 6, 2006.
Three different freshmen scored for the War Hawks. McMurry took only eight shots landing five on goal, compared to 14 for the Eagles.
The first goal scored 3:18 minutes into the match when Rangel crossed the ball to Harwell who found the back of the net. The goal was Harwell's first of the season and her career.
McMurry did not score again until the 74th minute of the contest when
Addison Tate scored her first collegiate goal past a diving Ozarks goalie. In the 84th minute
Kristen Grant scored her second goal of the season off of a
Rachel Moore pass.
Hargrove played the entire game recording seven saves while Ozarks goalie Morgan O'Neil allowed three goals and saved two shots. Eagle forward Alex Cannon took eight shots landing four of them on goal.
The win moves McMurry to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in ASC play. The loss takes the Ozarks to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in ASC play. McMurry continues its road trip Saturday at 2 p.m. against UT-Dallas.
