ABILENE, Texas – UT-Tyler opened American Southwest Conference play with a 3-0 victory over McMurry University Friday at Edwards Field. The Patriots' Emily Bechdol, Charity Shipman and Julie Williams all scored goals for the visitors in the victory.

Bechdol struck early on a pass from Kirsten Steel in the sixth minute to give UT-Tyler and early advantage over the War Hawks. Then Shipman and Williams scored just 8:12 apart midway through the second half on assists from Jordan Johnson and Taylor Hernandez respectively.

McMurry put up eight shots with two on goal in the losing effort. Despite giving up three goals, Makenzie Hargrove saved 11 shots for McMurry, Paige Harris pitched a shutout for UT-Tyler saving two shots.

The Patriots fired 24 shots with 13 on goal. UT-Tyler improved to 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in league play. McMurry fell to 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference competition.

McMurry heads back to action at home Saturday at 2 p.m. against Concordia-Texas.
