HOBBS, N.M. – The University of the Southwest women's soccer team shutout McMurry University Sunday 4-0. USW's Darlene Villegas scored two of the team's goals, which all came in the second half.
McMurry (1-2), totaled nine shots and four on goal for the contest with Sydnie Rangel and
Rachel Moore each firing two apiece. Makenzie Hargrove saved seven shots for McMurry at goalie.
However, USM (2-1) unloaded after a scoreless first half with Lalaineya Eperanza striking first in the 49th minute to give the home team the game-winning goal. Villegas then added two consecutive goals just 4:25 apart in the 75th and 79th minutes. Britney Wells closed out the game with a score in the 88th minute. USM'a Abagail Medina pitched a shutout saving four shots.
McMurry begins its American Southwest Conference schedule Friday and Saturday with matches against UT-Tyler and Concordia-Texas respectively with each kickoff at 2 p.m.
