McMurry Takes Down WIldcats for Second Victory of the Season

Junior defender Chelsea Klein scored the game winner in the 64th minute
PINEVILLE, La. – After a winless drought of three-plus seasons, McMurry won its second game in three matches by beating Louisiana College 3-2 Thursday afternoon at the Wildcat Soccer Field. Defender
Chelsea Klein scored what proved to be the game winner in the 55th minute off a penalty kick.

Klein's first goal of the season put McMurry up 3-1 and the visitors held off further rally after the Wildcats cut the lead to one with a goal in the 64th minute.

McMurry struck early when Rachel Moore took a pass from Chelsey Slay and put it past the Wildcat goalie Emily Breaux in the 20th minute of the match. The scored remained 1-0 through the half until Moore beat Breaux once again on an unassisted goal in the 51st minute.

The Wildcats quickly struck back in the 53rd minute when Louisiana's Marionne Coronel beat McMurry's goalie Hillari Chambers to break the shutout. Klein would then follow up two minutes later and score on a penalty kick to give McMurry the final lead. Marionne scored once more in the 64th minute of the match to bring the game within one. But the McMurry defense was able to hold off for the second victory of the season.

McMurry more than doubled the Wildcats shots on goal by a count of 25-11. McMurry was lead by Rachel Moore who had a total of eight shots on the day with seven coming on goal, and two finding the net. The three goals marks the first time that McMurry has scored three goals or more in two games since the 2006 season.

McMurry snapped a 52-match winless streak Friday that spanned back to
the 2006 season before beating the University of the Ozarks 4-1. McMurry moved to 2-3 in American Southwest Conference play and moved to 2-7 overall.

McMurry will take on Mississippi College Saturday at 1:00 in Clinton, Miss.
