LONGVIEW, Texas – McMurry University won the LeTourneau Spring Classic by five strokes capping the two-round tournament Tuesday with a 332 at the Pine Crest Country Club to win the team's second consecutive tournament in the spring season.

Monica Harris led the way by placing second overall with a two-round total of 154. She opened with a 75 Monday and finished Tuesday with a 79. Kelly Green also posted a top 10 finish tying for seventh place with a 163 (77-86).

Libby Scarlett finished 17th, Courtney Norton placed 21st and Katie McElroy tied for 31st place to round out McMurry's five golfers for the tournament. Kelly Horney competed independently for McMurry and tied for 28th place.

Scarlett shot a 169 (83-86), Norton finished with a 172 (88-84) and McElroy shot a 181 (98-93). Tyler Junior College took second place and Jacki Marshall won the individual medal for TJC with a 150. Harris was one stroke ahead of Marshall after round one, but Marshall finished with a tournament-low 74 Tuesday.

The tournament was the final tune up for McMurry's appearance in the American Southwest Conference Tournament which takes place Monday and Tuesday in Anna, Texas.

McMurry finished ahead of Mary Hardin-Baylor (third), Schreiner (fifth), LeTourneau (sixth) and Texas Lutheran who rounded out the seven-team field in seventh.

In men's action, David Buchheit tied for second place with a three-round total of 221 at the West Region Invitational hosted by Southwestern University Tuesday, however, McMurry's men placed eighth out of eight teams.

Buchheit opened with a 73 in round one and a 72 in round two Monday before closing the tournament with a 76 to finish nine strokes behind the winner, Chris Milligan of UT-Brownsville.

UTB went on to win the tournament by 19 strokes with a three-round score of 880 ahead of Trinity University which shot an 899. Southwestern took third, Texas Lutheran finished fourth, Concordia-Texas was fifth, Mary Hardin-Baylor took sixth, California Lutheran was seventh and McMurry rounded out the eight-team field.

McMurry caught a bad break in round one when Jeff Wesson was disqualified on a technical scoring error, which took Wesson's score out of the picture when determining the top four scores for the team in all three rounds. McMurry finished with a 324 as a result in round one, followed with a 314 in round two and a shot a 312 in the final round Tuesday.

Nick Mehigan placed 16th with a 228 (75-79-74), Matt Ragovin tied for 37th place with a 241 (79-81-81), and Tyler Becker placed 51st with a 266 (97-86-83).
