McMurry back at .500 mark with win over Schreiner

ABILENE, Texas - McMurry pieced together a second-consecutive sweep of an ASC opponent in as many days taking down Schreiner 25-20, 25-15, 25-22 at Kimbrell Arena Saturday afternoon. Terah Brown had nine kills and six blocks to lead McMurry and the team evened its American Southwest Conference record at 3-3.

Just 16 hours after completing a sweep over Sul Ross State, McMurry hit .258 as a team and out-blocked the Mountaineers 9-6. Bailey Marcum had seven kills for the second-straight contest while Bennie Smith and M.J. Vickers each had five. Danielle Kelton led with 13 digs and she added four blocks and four kills.

Carmyn Wingrove and Kelsey Campbell recorded 13 assists apiece for McMurry's offense. McMurry was extremely efficient in the second set hitting .550 as a team with 13 kills and just two errors on 20 attacks.

Schreiner's Caitlin Gayle led the match with 11 kills and hit .240 individually, however, McMurry's defense held the Mountaineers to just a .067 hitting effort for the match. Schreiner fell to 9-8 overall and 3-3 in league play with the loss.

McMurry improved to 5-7 overall and went to 3-3 in league play. Thursday and Friday, McMurry will head to Tyler to the ASC crossover tournament, and its first opponent will be UT-Dallas Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
