McMurry's women fall 7-0 to ETBU in league opener

MARSHALL – McMurry's American Southwest Conference opener did not go as planned and the East Texas Baptist Lady Tigers shutout the visitors 7-0 Friday afternoon. Danica Saxon scored two goals and assisted three to lead the hosts.

ETBU scored five goals in the first half and six different players scored goals for the Lady Tigers in both team's ASC opener. Saxon scored 1:15 into the contest and the Lady Tigers followed with a goal in the fourth minute by Rebecca Davis to start with an early 2-0 lead.

Lauren Yeargin scored in the 11th minute, Hilary Noble scored in the 14th, and Jacqui Saling scored in the 29th to close the first half scoring. McMurry's Bianca Van Osdol saved three shots in the first half.

Trailing 5-0 at intermission, Jessica Ramirez filled in the second half for Van Osdol and recorded eight saves in the second period.

ETBU's Norma Salazar put a ball in the net just 1:04 into the second half to make the score 6-0 and Saxon scored her second goal in the 54th minute to close the scoring for the match.

McMurry managed one corner kick, but couldn't get the offense going and did not record a shot on offense.

ETBU improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play while McMurry fell to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in league play. McMurry will look for a fresh start Saturday against LeTourneau in Longview.
