SEGUIN – The defending American Southwest Conference West Division champion Texas Lutheran Lady Bulldogs took down McMurry University in three sets Friday night, 25-16, 30-28, 25-23. TLU had three players with double-digit kills and held McMurry's offense to just a .075 hitting percentage to move to 2-0 in the ASC West.
The Lady Bulldogs' Jamie Jahns led the team with 13 kills and a .323 hitting percentage while Jessica Stetler and Sarah Black had 12 and 10 kills respectively.
Other than the first set, McMurry played the defending champs extremely close taking the second set into extra points. Then in the third set, McMurry led 23-20, but the Lady Bulldogs stormed back with five-straight points to take the match.
M.J. Vickers led McMurry in the losing effort with eight kills. The freshman had no errors on 19 total attacks to hit .441 for the night. On defense, McMurry played well out-blocking TLU 9-3 and
Terah Brown led that category with five (two solo) and
Bailey Marcum added four.
Sarah Anding led with 23 digs for McMurry and
Danielle Kelton added 16. McMurry's two setters
Carmyn Wingrove and
Kelsey Campbell had 12 assists and 10 assists respectively.
TLU's Amanda Curry had 39 assists to lead the Lady Bulldogs while Stetler led defensively with 19 digs.
McMurry fell to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the ASC West while TLU improved to 5-2 overall with a 2-0 mark in league play.
McMurry will try for its first conference win of the season Saturday in Round Rock against Concordia-Texas.
