ABILENE, Texas - In a season-finale battle of two teams without an American Southwest Conference win, Schreiner left McMurry empty-handed with Dani Gomez's game-winning goal in the 88th minute to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 victory at Edwards Field Saturday.

Gomez took a pass from Schreiner's Rebecca Chiaro and shot straight-on from 30 yards out and the ball went off the hand of McMurry goalie Bianca Van Osdol and into the net for the match's only score.

McMurry went on the offensive Saturday in the first half trying to avoid its third-straight winless season. McMurry fired 12 shots in the first half and finished with a season-high 21 including 10 on goal.

However, the Mountaineers' Genevieve Monroe saved all 10 shots McMurry put close to the net and Gomez's late heroics helped Schreiner improved to 3-11-3 overall and 1-9-3 in conference play.

McMurry finished 0-15-1 overall and 0-12-1 in conference play and the program hasn't enjoyed a win since the last game of the 2006 season.

Head coach Tim Grove saw one senior, Kathy Alonso, play her final match in a McMurry uniform

“In the decades I have been involved in the game, I can honestly say that Kathy is one of the best leaders on and off the field that I have dealt with as a coach and player,” said Grove of Alonso. “She will be greatly missed and will always be a part of the McMurry program and its soccer history.”
