by Thomas Beckham, SID intern

ABILENE, Texas—Louisiana College scored an early second half goal to beat McMurry 1-0 in league play Saturday afternoon at Wilford Moore Stadium.

Martha Means' shot was tipped by McMurry goalie Bianca Van Osdol and eventually found the net for the only goal of the contest in the 55th minute.

McMurry won the shot count 12-10 led by Jennifer Grant who recorded six shots and three on goal.  Amber Torres and Courtney Danna each recorded two shots for the home team. However, Louisiana's goalie Emily Breaux saved five shots to turn away McMurry's chances to score.

The win was the first of the season for Louisiana College who moved to 1-13 overall and improved to 1-6 in the American Southwest Conference. The loss leaves McMurry searching still for its first win falling to 0-10-1 overall and 0-7-1 in conference.

McMurry will take on cross-town rival Hardin-Simmons Saturday October 17 in Abilene at HSU.
