ABILENE -- The University of Texas at Dallas knocked off McMurry in both men's and women's American Southwest Conference soccer action at Edwards Field on Friday. The Lady Comets first shutout the McMurry women, 9-0, before the UTD men topped McMurry in a hard-fought match, 2-1.
The loss drops the McMurry women to 0-7 overall and 0-5 on the year. The McMurry men fall to 0-8 and 0-5. The win pushes the Lady Comets to 5-3-2 and 3-1, while the UTD men improve to 5-3-1 and 3-0-1.
UTD dominated from the outset in the women's match. The Lady Comets scored five goals in the first and tallied four more goals in the second half. UTD also attempted 17 shots on goal compared to just one for McMurry.
The men's match was a different story as McMurry was only out shot by five (15-10). UTD's Kevin White proved to be the difference maker as he scored both of the Comets' goals.
White found the back of the net for the first time in the fourth minute and again in the 55
th minute. But McMurry's
Nathan Perschke got one of those goals back (he now has a team-high four goals on the year) for McMurry off a penalty kick in the 62
nd minute. Unfortunately for McMurry that would be the only goal they would muster.
Both McMurry soccer squads will be back in American Southwest Conference action on Saturday against the University of the Ozarks (Ark.). The McMurry women will begin play at 1 p.m. from Edwards Field with the men to follow.
