ABILENE -- A questionable foul call in the goalie box allowed UMHB's Lauren Thorne to score a goal off a penalty kick in the fourth minute of overtime to propel the Lady Crusaders past McMurry 3-2 in an American Southwest Conference soccer match at Edwards Field on Saturday.
It was a resilient McMurry squad that forced overtime as they trailed 2-0 after the first 35 minutes of the contest. UMHB's Lexy Smith sored the first goal of the match in the seventh minute off a pass from Mickie Arredondo before Arredondo scored an unassisted goal of her own in the 35th minute.

Chelsea Klein scored an unassisted goal in the 44th minute off a booming free kick from about 25 yards out. Klein's score cut UMHB's lead to 2-1 at the break.
That score remained true until the 85th minute mark when McMurry's
Karla Alarcon was fouled in the goalie box, which awarded her with a penalty kick to tie the game at two. Alarcon then beat Lady Crusader goalkeeper Meredith West on the ensuing penalty kick to send the game into overtime.
UMHB out shot McMurry 35-12 for the match with 19 of the Lady Crusader's shots being on goal as opposed to nine for McMurry.
Julie Murphy attempted four shots for McMurry with three of those being on goal. McMurry goalkeeper
Laura McElroy made a match-high 16 saves in the loss.
McMurry falls to 0-14 with the loss and 0-11 in ASC play. McMurry returns to action on Oct. 31 when they travel to Seguin, Texas, to take on Texas Lutheran for another ASC contest.
