KERRVILLE - Alex Robles and DeWayne Hall led a second-half 3-point explosion to start the second half and McMurry was able to coast to a 81-67 victory over Schreiner Thursday night. After a nine-point halftime lead, Hall hit three treys and Robles had two in the first 4:30 minutes of the second half aiding a 22-7 run to start the half.
The run kept the Mountaineers from getting back into the game. Schreiner did make a run late in the second half but it wasn't enough. McMurry led 71-51 before Schreiner went on a 10-0 run that ended with 3:36 left to play in regulation.
However, the rally ended for Schreiner and several players hit key buckets and free throws for McMurry down the stretch to pull away. McMurry shot 54.9 percent from the floor for the game and was 8 of 14 from beyond the arc.
Hall and Robles each had 18 points in the victory. Travis Tennison had all 11 of his points in the first half giving him two-straight games with double figures. Chris Beck scored 10 points and had eight boards off the bench.
Riley Battle scored 19 points off the bench for Schreiner in the loss while Matt Riley had 16 points. However, McMurry was 17 of 18 from the free-throw line and out-rebounded the Mountaineers 32-20.
McMurry improved to 7-9 overall and 4-8 in American Southwest Conference play while Schreiner fell to 4-11 overall and 4-7 in league play.
