McMurry University put out its best effort of the season in a 2-1 loss to Concordia-Texas Saturday at Edwards Field. Alexis Gravalos scored the first goal of the season for McMurry's women in the second half and out-shot the Tornados 30-17.
The Tornados scored two first-half goals by Stephanie Warren and Brittany Jordan. However, McMurry's defense held Concordia to just 11 shots and 10 on the goal. The Tornados' Elizabeth Hall saved 16 McMurry shots to pick up the victory for Concordia-Texas.
Laura McElroy saved eight shots in the loss for McMurry. Prior to Saturday's game, McMurry hadn't recorded more than five shots in a game. Emily Germany and Gracie Rodriguez each had eight shots apiece for McMurry and Gravalos and Sofie Ellebaek shot five times.
Warren scored in the 25th minute and Jordan scored in the 40th minute. Though, McMurry allowed two first-half goals, the team was able to hold Concordia scoreless in the second half.
McMurry fell to 0-7-1 on the season overall and 0-5-1 in conference play. Concordia improved to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the ASC.
