McMurry held UT-Tyler scoreless for a half before the floodgates opened and the Patriots posted five second-half goals to defeat McMurry 5-0 at Edwards Field Friday afternoon. UT-Tyler scored three goals in two minutes and 41 seconds to open up the second half and used the momentum to keep McMurry from mounting a comeback.
Tyler dominated the contest offensively. Even without a goal in the first half, the Patriots out-shot McM 8-2 in the first period. In the second half, however, UT-Tyler scored five times on 16 shots while McMurry managed just seven shots in the second period.
The Patriots held McMurry to just two shots on the goal for the entire match while Geoff Sherman and Mark Oliphant combined for the shutout at goalie. Adam McAlpine scored in the 50th minute to begin UT-Tyler's second-half explosion. Just one minute and 18 seconds later, Michael Kendal scored on a set up from Cole Brittain and Tony Gullen.
One minute and three seconds later, McAlpine scored his second goal of the game unassisted. Brandon Warren added a goal in the 79th minute and Rudy Galvan scored in the 81st minute for the final goal of the match.
McMurry fell to 0-4-1 on the season in American Southwest Conference play and are now 1-4-1 overall. UT-Tyler improved to 4-4-1 on the season and is now 2-3 in conference play.
