The winning streak is back up to three matches for McMurry University's volleyball team after a 30-20, 30-25, 30-22 win over Sul Ross State Wednesday at Kimbrell Arena. McMurry won its first seven matches of the season before falling to Hardin-Simmons Sept. 19. Since then, McMurry has posted three straight American Southwest Conference West Division games with wins over Schreiner, Texas Lutheran and the Lady Lobos.
It wasn't the cleanest game of the year for McMurry. The team hit just .157 for the contest and hit only .015 in the third game of the match. Erica English led the team in kills for the third straight match with 15 kills.
The junior hit. 333 for the game and had just five attacking errors on 30 attacks. She also added five digs and assisted block in McMurry's 10th win of the season. The rest of the offensive attack for McMurry was a balanced one as Blair Targac and Shannon Higgins recorded eight kills apiece, Danielle Kelton added seven and Terah Brown had six.
Sarah Anding led defensively for McMurry with 28 digs while Kelton added 19. Higgins also posted 28 assists while Kendall Jackson added 12 set ups. McMurry out-blocked Sul Ross 4-3 and held the Lady Lobos to a .000 hitting percentage. The Lady Lobos had 26 kills and 26 errors on the night.
Sul Ross' Stacy Macias had nine kills for the Lady Lobos in the losing effort. With the win, McMurry improved to 10-1 on the season overall and is still second in the ASC West Division with a 5-1 record. Sul Ross fell to 1-10 on the season and fell to 0-6 in division play.
McMurry heads to Clinton, Miss. Thursday for matches Friday and Saturday at the ASC Crossover Tournament hosted by Mississippi College. The team will face East Texas Baptist, Mississippi College and LeTourneau.
