LeTourneau edges McM's men in 2OT 2-1

Box Score

McMurry's men's soccer team suffered another tough loss in double overtime Friday falling 2-1 to LeTourneau in Longview. With the score knotted at 1-1 through the first overtime, the Yellow Jackets' Daniel Iya scored on a header in the 103rd minute on a cross from Daniel Armas for the game-sealing goal.

Iya's shot was the only one of the second overtime period for LeTourneau. The Yellow Jackets scored their first goal in the second half when Sergio Palacios scored in the 50th minute.

With the clock winding down in regulation, McMurry's Nathan Perschke scored his second goal of the season with 1:07 remaining. McMurry out-shot LeTourneau for the contest 32-23 and led in the shots-on-goal category 13-11. However, it was Iya's goal that sunk McMurry and kept the visitors winless in the American Southwest Conference.

Even though the team lost, head coach Tim Grove said that he was pleased and positive about the team's performance.

“I was very proud of the team and they played just the way I wanted them to, they just need to learn to take advantage of their opportunities,” Grove said.

McMurry will get another opportunity at its first ASC win Saturday with a  match against East Texas Baptist. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
