Texas Lutheran returned the favor to McMurry University Friday night in Seguin with a 30-25, 30-23, 30-18 sweep avenging McMurry's 3-1 victory Sept. 21. The Lady Bulldogs hit a solid .281 as a team and Jamie Jahns and Jessica Stetler led TLU with 15 and 11 kills respectively.
The loss marked the third of the season for McMurry in the American Southwest Conference West Division. Until Saturday, McMurry had only lost to Hardin-Simmons in the West Division and held a perfect record against other west division opponents.
However, TLU was too much to overcome on its home floor and the Lady Bulldogs moved to 18-6 on the season and 15-2 against ASC opponents. TLU could clinch a share of the ASC West Division title Saturday if it beats Hardin-Simmons at home. The Cowgirls are 16-1 against ASC opponents and a loss would mark a tie for the two squads.
Saturday marks the regular season finale for all teams in the ASC. McMurry will play Schreiner in Kerrville at 1 p.m. McMurry has already clinched the third spot in the west for next week's ASC Championship Tournament. With Friday's loss, McMurry is 11-6 against ASC competition.
Since beginning the season at 16-3, McMurry has dropped four of its last seven matches. The team will look for a turn around beginning with the final match of the regular season Saturday and then with the ASC Tournament, which looks to be in Richardson after UT-Dallas beat East Texas Baptist Friday night.
Friday, no McMurry player was in double digits in the kills category. Danielle Kelton and Terah Brown each had nine kills in the losing effort. However, the team hit just .139 for the match.
Schreiner enters Saturday at 10-14 overall and 7-10 in the ASC.
