McM women fall short in 1-0 loss to La. College

Box Score

McMurry's women's soccer team played a much better offensive match against Louisiana College Friday at Edwards Field, however, its efforts fell short in a 1-0 loss to the Wildcats. McMurry matched the Wildcats in total shots with 20 but gave up a tear-drop goal off a corner kick in the first half to Jessica Thompson for the contest's only goal.

The Wildcats' goal came with under 10 minutes left in the first half as Andrea Starr was able to take advantage of corner-kick opportunity and sailed a nice pass to Thompson, whose kick floated just over McMurry's goalkeeper Laura McElroy.

McElroy managed 10 saves on the afternoon despite the loss. Several McMurry players took shots and recorded shots on goal in the contest. Hillary Stephens and Sofie Ellebaek each had two shots on goal in the losing effort for McMurry.

Louisiana College' Carla Lambert recorded the shutout for the Wildcats at goalie and had nine saves on the afternoon. With the win, LC improved to 6-8 on the season and is now 5-3 in the American Southwest Conference. McMurry, still searching for its first win, fell to 0-10-1 on the season and 0-8-1 in conference competition.

McMurry will get another shot at a victory Saturday at home against Mississippi College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
