McM can't hang on to win, but settles for tie with LC

Box Score

McMurry held Louisiana College scoreless for 84 minutes and 49 seconds. However, the Wildcats' Andrew Magel scored off a throw in 84 minutes and 50 seconds into the game to force a 1-1 tie, and neither team was able to break it in two overtime periods and the match ended in a tie Friday at Edwards Field.

Uriel Benitez scored in the 55th minute on an assist from Marcos Perez giving Benitez his third goal of the season. McMurry dominated the shot count and even recorded the last 17 shots of the game with the defense not allowing Louisiana College a chance to take the lead.

However, the net was unkind to McMurry. Even with five shots in the last five minutes of regulation and six shots in each of the overtime periods, McMurry was unable to put in the game-winner.

McMurry nearly scored right after the kickoff in the second overtime period, however, Rodrigo Chiquini's one-on-one shot missed to the right. McMurry's defense was so tough, that other than Magel's goal, the Wildcats managed just one other shot on goal. McMurry countered with eight shots on the goal to accompany its 28 total shots.

McMurry is now 2-6-2 overall and 1-6-2 in the American Southwest Conference. Louisiana College is 4-10-1 on the year and 2-5-1 in the ASC after recording its first tie.

McMurry will look to get its second conference win Saturday again at home against Mississippi College at 3 p.m.
