Wiley Wise graduated from McMurry in 1959 and was a standout football player for the Indians. Wise was one of the most respected tight ends as well as defensive ends in the Lone Star Conference, garnering all-LSC accolades in 1957.  He was also a two-time all-Texas College selection, as well as a two-time all-City selection.

Over the course of his four-year playing career with the Indians, Wise helped McMurry to three (1955, 1957, 1958) LSC titles, all while being a member of the Army National Guard.

After his collegiate playing days, Wise began a 27-year career as a teacher and coach at the following schools: Los Fresnos High School, Mann Jr. High,  Abilene High School, Central Catholic High School, Madison Junior High, Cooper High School, and Abilene Wylie Junior High.  One of the highlights of his coaching career came in 1968 when his Central Catholic High School basketball team won the Class 2A State Championship.  Wise has also worked in the insurance business and has built and resurfaced tennis courts with his eldest son, Jeffrey.
