Richard Puckett was a four-year starter for Buddy Fornes at quarterback from 1966-69 where he led the Indians to winning seasons in his sophomore and junior years. He ranks among the all-time on McMurry’s career passing list with 3,385 yards and all-time in total offense with 4,441 total yards.
Puckett was a second-team all-Lone Star Conference selection in 1968.
That team, under Fornes, posted an 8-2 record and is also receiving one of the three 2011 “Team Award” inductions to the McMurry Hall of Honor.
Puckett was a member of Alpha Sigma Chi while at McMurry and graduated in 1971 with a degree in business marketing. Puckett a Winters native, spent a brief time with the U.S. Army National Guard and the U.S. Air Force National Guard before entering into business with Exxon in 1971.
