Lloyd, a native of Vega, was a teammate of longtime McMurry basketball Coach Hershel Kimbrell on the Indian Basketball teams of the late 1940’s. He was an all-conference selection four consecutive years and was one of the team’s top scorers, averaging 214 points per season.
Loyd was also a member of the McMurry baseball team, playing second base; and was active in numerous campus organizations.
He coached until 1973 in Mobeetie, Clarendon JC, Merkel and Frank Phillips College. His 1954 Clarendon JC tennis team won the state JC championship. While at Merkel, his basketball teams went 92-12 and won three district championships while his baseball team also won a district title.
