SHERMAN, Texas – For the first time in more than a month, the McMurry University swimming teams returned to the pool at the Austin College Invitational at the Hannah Natatorium. The War Hawks' women and men both placed fourth among the six competing school.
On the women's side, sophomore
Robyn Remschel won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:11.53 minutes as her team's lone individual event winner. Remschel was also third in the 100 backstroke (1:01.49).
Kelly McNamee was fourth in both backstroke races.
The McM women also won the 400 yard relay. The quartet of
Kelsey Hill, McNamee,
Zandria Rodriguez and Remschel touched in a time of 3:59.59 minutes. McM's 400 medley relay – Remschel,
Samantha Spain,
Monica Flores and Hill – was second (4:34.74).
Flores was third in 1000-yard freestyle (12:04.77) and placed fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:36.00).
Katie Gorka was fourth in the 1000 free (12:39.96) and third in the 500 free (6:04.11).
In addition to her relay events, Hill earned a third place in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:40.35. In the 200 breaststroke, Spain finished at 2:56.36 for a fourth place. Likewise, Rodriguez was fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:10.84).
The McM men opened the meet with a fourth in the 400 medley relay at 3:51.16 minutes. The group consisted of
Jerick Pena, Kameron Salinas,
Craig Bell and
Kent Grimes. The War Hawk men were 5th in the 400 freestyle relay.
Individually, Salinas picked up a third in the 200 breaststroke at 2:22.59 minutes and a fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.62). Pena was fourth in the men's 100 backstroke, touching at 59.70 seconds.
Newcomer Patrick Oysten earned a pair of third place finishes in the two most grueling events: the 500 freestyle (a season-best time of 5:30.11) and the 1000 freestyle (11:10.37).
