Dream Catcher: McM's Hunter Earns NCCAA All-American Honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. – McMurry University baseball senior catcher Mikal Hunter (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman H.S.) has been named as a second-team National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-American, it has been announced. Hunter and his War Hawks' teammates recently completed the 2015 season with a 31-13 record and finished in the semifinals of the NCCAA Central Region tournament.

Hunter hit .335 (54-161) on the year, including 12 extra-base hits (8 doubles, 1 triple and 3 home runs). Hunter scored 25 runs and was third on the McM team with 39 runs batted in. He was hit by a hit a team-leading six times.

Hunter had a total of 15 multi-hit games, including a season-best 4-for-4 versus Southwestern Assemblies of God. Hunter also had 10 games with multiple RBI. He had slugging percentage of .453 and an on-base average of .380.

But his defensive prowess may have been his greatest asset for McM, starting 40 of the team's 44 games behind the plate. Hunter had a team-leading .993 fielding percentage (making just two errors in 267 total chances). He also threw out 55 percent of runners attempting to steal on him, nailing 16 out of 29.
