ABILENE, Texas - ESPN's newly developed Longhorn Network has elected to carry the final five home games of the UT-San Antonio football schedule, which includes McMurry University's game Saturday at 1 p.m.
Unfortunately for Abilene fans, the Longhorn Network isn't carried by any local vendors for television. In addition, the Longhorn Network informed McMurry officials that ESPN had exclusive rights to the television broadcast, which includes online live streaming.
In turn, McMurry must cancel its online video broadcast of the game. In addition, very few if any fans will be able to view a live feed through the Internet. The only carriers of the Longhorn Network to this point are FiOS TV (4 million distribution nation-wide) owned by Verizon and Grande Communications. Grande serves the Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio, Midland/Odessa, Waco, Corpus Christi and Dallas markets.
McMurry officials requested a waiver and exception to producers at ESPN and the Longhorn Network and were denied.
The game will be carried locally on KZQQ 1560 AM beginning at 12:45 p.m. and video subscribers can hear an audio-only broadcast on mcmurrysports.com/showcase.
