ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's late free throws held off a late run by Centenary College to take a 98-88 victory Saturday afternoon in Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks lead by 19 with 7:49 remaining when the Gents stung together a 20-7 run over a five minute 59 second span.
With the score 7-6 in favor of the Gents McMurry went on a 16-8 run ending with a 3-point bucket by
Brock Kimball. Centenary took a late one point lead with 2:01 remaining the half, but McMurry answered with two straight 3-pointers by
Bryce Hill to five McMurry a 42-37 halftime lead. In the first half McMurry shot 51 percent from the field hitting 9-13 from beyond the arch.
Jaden Isler continued his offensive leadership recording seven assists in the first half alone.
With 10:30 remaining in the game McMurry struck with a 12-5 run in less than three minutes to take a 78-59 lead after a
Steven Jones layup. Centenary then went on the 20-1 run ending with a Gents jumper to pull within six, with 2:50 left in the game. McMurry sank three buckets and hit six free throws over the final 2:50 of the game to take the 98-88 point win over the gents. McMurry was perfect from the line going 14-14 in the second half alone.
Isler ended the night with his second straight 11 assists game, adding 15 points and one steal in the contest. Jones recorded his second straight double-double with 15 rebounds and 23 points in the game. Hill hit five 3-point buckets recording 15 points in the contest.
McMurry improves to 7-1 on the season and remains at 5-0 in American Southwest Conference action due to Centenary's probationary status. The War Hawks will square off against an undefeated Hardin-Simmons University December 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Kimbrell Arena. McMurry trails HSU by one game in the conference standings. The Gents fall to 1-6 on the year.
