RICHARDSON, Texas - Five McMurry women's basketball players and
Steven Luckey from the men's basketball team were announced to the American Southwest Conference all-academic teams last week. McMurry's swim team, which competes independently in the NCAA Division III honored four women and three men for their academic performances.
For the women's basketball team,
Anna Berthel,
Amanda Peters,
Erica Rawls,
Jordan Stansell, and
Jennifer Wells were all named academic all-conference for their performances in the classroom. Berthel was the only first-time selection with Rawls, Stansell and Wells picking up their second honor, while the senior, Peters, collected her third academic award.
For the senior, Luckey, it was his first academic all-conference award while at McMurry for the men's team, and his selection was the first McMurry men's basketball player to earn the academic honor since Dustin Faught and Elijah Bryant were each named academic all-conference following the 2005-2006 season.
In order to earn academic all-conference awards for the ASC, a player must have lettered during the season, completed two semesters at the respective institution previously to playing, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
All in all, a combined 86 student-athletes from the men's and women's basketball teams around the ASC earned academic all-conference honors.
For head coach
Bev Ball and the swim team, Elise Hager, Kelsey Jones,
Amber Perkins and Sara Stangebye all matched the requirements of academic all-conference while Matthew Perez,
David Richards and
Nathan Worley did so for the men's swim team.
