SAN ANTONIO - McMurry University's men finished fourth and the women finished fifth at the University of Incarnate Word Swim-Dive Invitational over the weekend.
On the women's side,
Erin Johnson took home the only individual event victory for McMurry with her top finish in the 100-yard butterfly. She swam a time of 1:00.16 and later placed third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:16.92.
On the men's side,
Craig Osterman placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.13 and was the top NCAA Division III swimmer in the event. Later, he placed third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.07 seconds.
Daniel Zipprian placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with at time of 5:50.86 just behind UIW's Justin Marthilijohni who placed first with a time of 5:49.58.
The men's relay team of Osterman,
Ben Sherwood,
Nathan Worley and
Sean White placed fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
UIW and UT-Permian Basin were among the NCAA Division II schools at the meet while McMurry, Southwestern and Trinity were all among the division III schools present. UIW took overall wins in the men's and women's team rankings for the meet. Trinity upset UTPB in both cases placing second. The Falcons were third and UTPB's women finished ahead of Southwestern and McMurry placed fifth. On the men's side, McMurry was fourth and finished ahead of Southwestern.
Saturday, McMurry returns to the pool in Georgetown in a meet hosted by Southwestern. It will mark the final meet of the season before the NCAA Division III Independents conference meet in Elesa, Ill. Feb. 18-20.
